Would you like the receipt for success in learning Spanish? It is very simple, but so difficult at the same time. You need to have a passion. A true passion for Spanish. If you don’t have one you will still potentially learn the language to some extent, but it will never give you any fun and you will not have motivation to do it. Because learning a new language – whether it’s Spanish or French or whatever – takes both time and some determination, and having passion makes the whole process of picking up Spanish words and phrases, grammar and comprehension, speaking and writing much easier.
Your passion for Spanish could have source in different things. Love is probably the best motivation there is in this world. Nothing is more passionate than love. Imaging falling in love with a person who can speak only Spanish and not a single word of English. Would it be hard to learn the language in this situation? Surely not! You would learn quickly, because you would want to be able to share your thoughts and ideas with your loved one.
You could have huge passion for traveling and just this could help you learn new Spanish words and phrases every day and every week. If your dream is to visit Peru or go for a road trip thought Argentina, than I don’t think there is a reason better than that to pick up Spanish. You realize that everything you learn will come in handy, that the local language will help you connect with locals and make your experience even more exciting.
You could have passion for Spanish cinema or Spanish actors and what’s better than watching movies in the original version? You wouldn’t have to deal with inaccurate translations and you could concentrate on the sounds of the beautiful Spanish.
You could have passion for Spanish cuisine. And again – what’s greater motivation than being able to go to the real Spanish restaurant and order food using all the Spanish words and phrases that you know? Or being able to buy original cooking book from Spain and be able to understand all the receipts?
There are probably many other source of passion and inspiration – music or history, celebrities or architecture and many, many more. My point is this - find your passion if you want to be successful in your Spanish. If you don’t have a passion you will never truly learn Spanish. You might be able to get a grasp of some grammar and some Spanish words and phrases, but the learning process will be just another thing you just do and don’t care about too much.
